Tender and Fierce Self-Compassion: Yoga & Meditation Series

Self-compassion comes from the desire to alleviate our suffering. Sometimes this requires tender and soft acceptance of “being with” ourselves. Other times, self-compassion needs to be fierce, standing up for ourselves, or finding the courage to take a new path. When used in support of recovery, self-Compassion can be a powerful tool to help us activate our inner caregiver, self-kindness, self-worth, self-acceptance, inner strength to set boundaries, and to walk the path of recovery.

In this 6 week series, we will explore the practices of yoga and meditation as tools for both tender and fierce of self-compassion in eating disorder recovery. Weekly themes include mindfulness, self-kindness, common humanity, bravery, empowerment, and clarity. These themes are inspired by the book Fierce Self-Compassion by Dr. Kristin Neff.

This special class series, led by Yoga for Eating Disorders teacher Angela Prior, will meet on Zoom on Tuesdays 7:30-8:30 PM EST on May 12, May 19, May 26, June 2, June 9, and June 16. Join the live class or follow along with the recordings (Note: Only the teacher will be recorded, not the participants). You are welcome to practice with your camera on or off.

These yoga classes are taught from a trauma informed, eating disorder informed, and mental health informed perspective and are accessible for all bodies. All are welcome. No prior yoga or meditation experience required.

What People Are Saying About Angela’s Classes

“Angela is a wonderful facilitator. I felt the program was so needed for me. She offered modifications and invitations to move in ways that felt good for my body and helped me feel more comfortable. We don’t give ourselves compassion as much as we give others and I definitely realize how little I’d been giving myself.” -Kristen Shuman

“I followed along with the class recordings and learned a great deal from them. Learning about and practicing the different components of self-compassion in a way that linked body and mind was helpful. I could see myself benefitting from repeating these practices again and again, working on really allowing myself to absorb them.” -Diana Walling

“Angela's compassion and knowledge creates a safe haven for a body mindful practice. Her language and cues are supportive and inviting and she always incorporates accessible poses. Angela's ability to incorporate alternatives to poses without making it seem like you were doing something different, just answering the call of your body. Her cues are clear and concise and peaceful.” -Anonymous
